Rob Adelberg hails from Benalla, Australia, and is one the of the new age FMX riders from Down Under. The Yamaha rider got his first Red Bull X-Fighters podium with second place in Dubai 2012 and had his first photos published in Freerider MX magazine at the tender age of 14.
At that young age he was already busting out big grab tricks on a CR80, and ever since he has steadily progressed to become one of the best FMX riders in Australia. Rob really knows how to put on a show and he handles the pressure of competition well. He also knows how to throw down on natural terrain.
Rob spent 2009 living at Robbie Maddison's house in the FMX Mecca of Temecula, California, where he focused on pushing his burgeoning international career forward and making a name for himself in the U.S. After a few successful rounds on the IFMXF Tour he went back to Australia in 2010 to take care of his newborn baby, but he simply couldn't resist the invitation to ride at the Battersea event in the heart of the British capital.
The Red Bull X-Fighters event in London was Rob's second appearance on the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour after his first in Fort Worth, Texas in 2009. Just like 2009, Adelberg was unlucky during training and crashed hard, knocking himself out of the main event.
In 2011, Adelberg earned two wildcard spots and finally took advantage of the opportunity, snatching a fifth place on home soil. A year later, the man from Down Under had a strong result at the 2012 tour-opener in Dubai where he finished in seventh place overall. He also collected points at appearances in Glen Helen and in Munich.
2013 worked out a lot better for the Yamaha rider. Adelberg was able to grab his first Red Bull X-Fighters victory in Glen Helen and finished a solid fourth place at three other tour stops. His fourth place overall ranking gave him a direct invitation to the 2014 Tour. The Metal Mulisha trooper didn't have the best season that year, but was able to leave his mark with another strong fourth position in Japan. At other events, he had to settle for results in the lower third of the ranking and didn't ride at the final in Pretoria due to an injury.
Looking back at 2015, it was a really busy year for Rob and he felt that he needed to reduce the furious pace of riding almost all big shows and events to allow himself more time to focus on new tricks and show the judges more innovation for better scores. Due to his busy riding schedule with the Nitro Circus Tour, Adelberg joined the Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour for the second stop in Athens and had to get straight into business to overcome his disadvantage of missing the first stop in Mexico. A strong third place was a good start, but his hopes of joining the lead group in the tour rankings were cut short in Madrid with a disappointing eighth place. He bounced back in Pretoria and grabbed a solid fifth place. At the final event in Abu Dhabi, Rob gave his all once again and finished with a strong third place, securing enough points to be the third best rider in the World Tour ranking at the end of the season.
Expect Adelberg to be one of the favourites for a podium finish in Madrid 2017, he has an open account to settle in Las Ventas.
