One of the most epic Red Bull X-Fighters competitions is expected in Athens on June 12 when the world's most prestigious freestyle motocross series makes its eagerly awaited debut in the Greek capital in a spectacular setting in the Dionyssos Marble Quarry on Mount Penteli.
The first-ever stop in Greece promises to be in one of the most exciting venues in the history of Red Bull X-Fighters. The spectacular Dionyssos Marble quarry, a site that is from the same region that produced the famous white marble used to build the Acropolis, will be the biggest and most challenging track of the 2015 World Tour.
In the second stop of the season the line up of twelve of the world's best FMX riders will include eight former Red Bull X-Fighters winners who will be fighting for valuable World Tour points. The trio from the podium of the season opener in Mexico City with the surprise winner Clinton Moore from Australia, ahead of Levi Sherwood (NZL) and Frenchman Tom Pagès, will have their hands full with the riders field packed with top contenders. Reigning World Tour Champion Josh Sheehan (AUS) and Taka Higashino (JPN) will be making their 2015 debut in Athens and trying to catch up in the tour standings.
In front of a sold-out crowd, the world's best FMX riders will be pushing to the limits with their gravity-defying tricks and jumps of up to 30 meters in distance and 15 meters high in the most unique and most anticipated venue of the 2015 season. The Dionyssos Marble Quarry is on Mount Penteli and quarries in the region have been operating since the Golden Age of Pericles, supplying the famous marble used to erect many of the stunning ancient buildings in Greece.
The track, which took three weeks to build over three quarry levels of up to seven meters high, will be one of the most spectacular courses ever with a great number of possibilities for the riders to find different lines. The Athens track features a record-setting three Kickers, three Super Kickers, two Dirt Jumps and three Quarter Pipes. Some 12,500 cubic meters of earth were moved to build the track deep inside the quarry, which is 350 meters, by 230 meters wide and 80 meters deep.
The five stop 2015 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour kicked off in Mexico City and after Athens will move on to Madrid (Spain) on July 10, Pretoria (South Africa) on September 12 before concluding in the United Arab Emirates on October 30.
